True Blues Statement 3/9/2019

Ahead of New York City FC’s home opener on Sunday, March 10th, True Blues NYCFC remains committed to the fight against hate and bigotry at our football club. We would like to commend the Third Rail for its pledge of solidarity and its efforts to ensure football truly is for everyone, and also NYCFC broadcaster Ian Joy, who stated that he will not align himself with an organization that tolerates fascism, racism, sexism, and homophobia.

Recent statements by NYCFC, MLS Commissioner Don Garber, and New York City Supporters Club do not go far enough to counteract these threats to our club. These issues have been ignored for too long. As many as 40,000 New Yorkers call Yankee Stadium home on NYCFC match days. We come from all backgrounds and beliefs. Those who can’t accept that have no place here. We must continue to speak out, and the club must take action to end these threats once and for all before they spread even further.

The club should immediately revoke official status and all attendant privileges from NYCSC as long as it protects or even tolerates members of hate groups. NYCSC should immediately denounce these individuals and rescind any existing memberships of such individuals. NYCFC should immediately revoke the season tickets of any individuals associated with hate groups.

True Blues calls on all NYCFC fans to demand better from their club and their fellow fans. We demand a club representative of the diversity of New York City– anything less is a failure.
